A Brief Bio

Dr. Ed Aractingi is the Associate Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Marshall University. He leads the division of Information Technology of around 80 professional staff serving the entire university. He earned a Ph.D. in information technology from Capella University, an MS. in information systems from Marshall University and a BA from Damascus University.He also serves on the graduate faculty of College of Engineering and Computer Sciences as an assistant professor of practice, teaching various subjects in computer science and information systems like Cloud Computing, Internet of Things and Visual Analytics. Prior to this role, Dr. Aractingi has served in various capacities at Marshall University including a deputy CIO and director in the IT department. Before that, he worked in healthcare at Cabell Huntington Hospital and at a private consulting practice.

Dr. Aractingi is active in the professional community as he is the co-chair of the   collaborative innovation program advisory group of Internet2, a member of the CIO advisory council for the smart campus, co-chair of the Internet of Things working group of Internet2, a member of the strategic planning working group and the service management working group at Educause as well as the   IT Governance, Risk and Compliance Advisory Committee. He is a member of the  Leadership Board of CIOs (LBCIO). He has served at the IEEE WV chapter as chair of consulting and the state coordinator of The Association for College and University Technology Advancement (ACUTA), Chair and Vice-chair of Marshall Student Chapter of Computer Society. He is an advocate of the use of data analytics for student success and project-based learning. He speaks regularly about  using AI and ML in Cyber Security, Innovation, Cloud Computing and identity management in higher education. He has served as a review panelist on National Science Foundation research panels and participated in various workshops on cybersecurity and cyberinfrastructure improvements.

He is also active in the community, serving on local non-profit boards like St. Joseph Catholic School advisory board and the Holy Spirit Church Parish council in Huntington.

From the time when Dr. Aractingi became Marshall University’s CIO, he committed to transforming the IT department into a service-oriented organization; he established the department’s  guiding principles and worked with the IT leadership team to develop the  strategic goals. He is engaged with faculty and students, a frequent speaker at student clubs, and a recipient of the University’s Dedication to Student Life Award.
